Rhenus is expanding its presence in Greater China as it announced a new office in Chongqing.
The global logistics service provider said its new office in Chongqing is its 23rd location in China and will focus on providing air and ocean as well as rail services and supports vertical markets which cover areas such as chemical products, automobiles, motorcycle parts, notebook computer parts and equipment.
“The office in Chongqing, together with the current office in Chengdu, will extend Greater China’s footprint and provide better local support for businesses operating in West China,” Rhenus wrote in its announcement.
It noted that Chongqing is among the world’s fastest-growing cities, with a population of over 30 million residents and a strong reputation for its innovation capabilities.
“With an established industrial system supported by the electronics, automotive, equipment, chemical engineering, materials, consumer goods, and energy industries, Chongqing has also seen rapid growth based on a strategy of innovation-driven development led by big data intelligence,” Rhenus said.
In its announcement, Rhenus pointed out that Chongqing achieved a regional GDP of US$429.6 billion in 2022, an increase of 2.6% over the same period of the previous year — with some strategic projects including the acceleration of the construction of the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle and the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor (ILSTC).
It noted that through the ILSTC, Chongqing had seen about 148,000 TEU (Twenty-foot Equivalent Units) of cargo delivered to the city through 7,000 rail-sea intermodal trains travelling through the corridor in 2022.
“Rhenus is committed to expanding our presence in Greater China as part of our ongoing global growth strategy. Chongqing’s strategic location as a transformation hub and international gateway driven by innovation offers us an ideal opportunity to share our experience in multimodal and intelligent logistics with the companies here,” said Cliff Xu, CEO of Rhenus Air & Ocean Greater China.
Rhenus in Greater China provides businesses with a full suite of warehousing and freight solutions as well as value-added services, including customs clearance.
