Modern Terminals has recently taken delivery of two electric light goods vehicles and two electric forklifts as part of its sustainability goal to eliminate direct greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2030 and to become carbon neutral by 2050.

"To achieve our 2030 goal, we have to identify appropriate equipment and different types of goods vehicles powered by cleaner energy that can meet our operational needs," said Horace Lo, group managing director of Modern Terminals Limited.

"When we set our goals in September last year, there were no immediate solutions available but as a leading terminal operator in Asia, it is important for us to be part of the driving force to encourage technology advancement," Lo added.

The newly delivered electric light goods vehicles are among the first batch of "non-road vehicles" supported by the "New Energy Transport Fund" (NET Fund) – an initiative of the Hong Kong SAR Government to encourage trial and wider use of green innovative transport technologies.

Modern Terminals noted that it has been a pioneer in the deployment of electric cars as it introduced two electric cars as patrol cars as early as 2011.
