Global schedule reliability continues to trend upwards, recording the largest month-on-month increase in 2022, according to the maritime analyst, Sea-Intelligence.
In a statement, it said the August performance was up 5.8 percentage points reaching 46.2% in August.
"The average delay for late vessel arrivals has been dropping sharply so far this year, tapering off a little in the past few months," said Alan Murphy, CEO, Sea-Intelligence.
The Sea Intelligence report noted that in August 2022, the average delay "improved sharply" once again, dropping by -0.57 days M/M to 5.86 days.
"This is now the first time that average delay has dropped below the 6-day mark since April 2021," Murphy added.
With schedule reliability of 53.0%, Maersk was again the most reliable carrier in August 2022, followed by CMA CGM with 46.0%.
The Sea-Intel report said another 6 carriers recorded schedule reliability of over 40%, 5 recorded schedule reliability of 30%-40%, while Yang Ming recorded the lowest schedule reliability of 29.8%.
"In August 2022, once again, a lot of the carriers were very close to each other in terms of schedule reliability, with 10 carriers within 7 percentage points of each other," the maritime analyst added.
Meanwhile, Sea-Intel said 12 of the top 14 carriers recorded a month-on-month improvement, while all 14 recorded a year-on-year improvement, with 11 of those carriers recording double-digit improvements, and 3 recording improvements of over 20 percentage points.
In July, global shipping schedule reliability increased by 0.5 percentage points month/month to 40.5% which is also higher than the June schedule reliability of 40.0% — although an improvement from the 36.4% seen in May, which was up 2.1 percentage points from the performance seen in April.
