Cosco Shipping has announced the opening of its new sea and air logistics centre in Guangzhou to modernise its services and operations further.

The new centre would provide warehouses, logistics, e-commerce services, temperature-controlled equipment, and other value-added services, which have grown in importance since the Covid-19 pandemic.

The 61,640 sq metre facility will be developed as an intelligent logistics park in Guangzhou Airport's economic zone.

With the opening of the Cosco Shipping Sea & Air (Guangzhou) Logistics Center, the company has formally established its Southeast China regional logistics supply chain platform with the goal of advancing the transformation and advancement of modern logistics.

The new airport facility also appears to signal Cosco's move to develop its air cargo services through Cosco Shipping Air — much like its peers in ocean shipping.

"Opening this centre is part of the Greater Bay Area strategy focused on Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau, and there will be opportunities arising from the growth of air logistics in this area," said Han Jun,  chairman of Cosco Shipping Logistics.

He added that the new logistics park also applies a smart management system, which can make the best use of visualisation, digitalisation and intelligent technology to build a safe, convenient, efficient and green park.

"This project is in line with the national Great Bay Area development strategy, and we will increase investments in core resources and accelerate upgrading for integrated logistics supply chain," the Cosco Shipping Logistics chief executive said.
