DB Schenker announced that its Japanese unit has launched its Electric Vehicle (EV) fleet in Japan.

"Schenker-Seino, the Japanese branch of DB Schenker announces the launch of its Electrical Vehicle fleet, dedicated to the delivery and transport operations of their global premier consumer electronics customer," the German logistics company said.

It added that this is in line with the company's global strategic focus towards carbon-neutral logistics and operations for customers and their supply chains.

"the dedicated EV trucks will significantly reduce particularly Scope 2 & 3 carbon emissions for customers' supply chains," DB Schenker added.

In the statement, DB Schenker said Schenker-Seino has acquired two units of Mitsubishi Fuso trucks "e-Canter" — an all-electric truck that has a Dry Van with a gate and a maximum loading capacity of 2,750kg.

Largest e-truck network in Europe

"DB Schenker operates the largest fully electric truck network in Europe. The electrification and carbon neutralization of its fleet and operations has significantly gained traction in other regions around the world, such as in the Asia Pacific," it said.

The launch of the new EV fleet dovetails with the 3PL's focus on green logistics, which the DB Schenker Group is actively working on in Europe, as well as in Japan with the cooperation of Seino Transportation Co., Ltd.

"Schenker-Seino is committed to becoming the leading green logistics provider in Japan. The management is convinced that success is measured not just by performance – but also by the social, environmental, and economic benefits and value it can bring to Japan and the people in Japan," it added.

DB Schenker noted that over the years, Schenker-Seino has been working on sustainability and regeneration across its logistics facilities, freight solutions, and converting company vehicles to electric models.

It said the launch of the Electric Vehicles (EV) as one of the first movers in Japan, is yet another significant milestone towards greener logistics.
