Vietnam's Bamboo Airways announced the launch of Bamboo Airways Cargo JSC (BAC) on January 3 as it elected Pham Dang Thanh as deputy general director of the new cargo airline.

The launch of Bamboo Airways' new cargo carrier subsidiary is part of the airline's bigger strategy to put up an "aviation ecosystem."

"This is the airline's latest movement in the overall strategy to build an aviation ecosystem, develop Bamboo Airways' member companies, and create more favourable conditions for the airline to thrive in the coming time," Bamboo Airways said in a statement.

It added that, in particular, Bamboo Airways determines to "constantly leverage service quality and pursue the full-service carrier model."

"As a result, the airline has been consolidating its position as one of the three largest airlines in Vietnam, with three outstanding internal strengths: quality and hospitable airline services; growth of inter-regional and inter-continental routes network; and leading in on-time performance in Vietnam's aviation industry," it said.

The airline noted the appointment of Thanh as deputy general director is part of the management "apparatus consolidation" to gear up the restructuring process and lay a solid foundation for the airline in this new phase.

Bamboo Airways said Thanh has many years of experience in the field of aviation engineering and has held many senior positions, including at Vietnam Airlines Engineering Company, Aircraft Factory A76 – Vietnam Airlines JSC.

Meanwhile, the airline also appointed Doan Huu Doan, executive vice chairman and executive deputy general director of Bamboo Airways, as chairman of BAC; Nguyen Khac Hai, deputy general director of Bamboo Airways, as CEO of BAC; and Dang Van Vien as managing director of BAC.

Bamboo Airways currently operates a domestic network to 21 out of 22 airports in Vietnam while constantly expanding its international presence to continental gateways in Asia, Australia, and Europe.

Aside from Bamboo Airways debuting a cargo airline, Vietnam's IPP Air Cargo also made similar plans earlier, only to drop the launch on October 26 amid reported concerns about the weakening air cargo demand and an uncertain economic outlook.
